New Student Programs is dedicated to providing undergraduate and graduate students with meaningful leadership and employment opportunities that enhance their development outside of the classroom.

Each year New Student Programs (NSP) selects two groups of mature and dedicated undergraduate student leaders to assist new members of the pack with their transition to NC State.

Important Dates

  • Application Opens: Monday, September 14 at 9 a.m.
  • Application Deadline: Friday, October 16 at 11:59 p.m.
  • Candidates Notified about Individual Interviews: October 20, 2026
  • Deadline for Candidates to Sign Up for Individual Interview: October 21, 2026 @ 5:00PM

Orientation Positions

  • Orientation Leader
    • Orientation Leaders (OLs) are a team of dedicated undergraduate students whose primary responsibility is to assist new students and their families with their transition into the NC State community and Wolfpack family. They serve as resources, facilitators, and official representatives of the University during Orientation and transition programs.
  • Student Coordinator
    • Student Coordinators (SCs) play a pivotal role in the selection, training, and supervision of Orientation Leaders, as well as the planning and execution of New Student and Family Orientation programs. The team consists of former Orientation Leaders looking to take their leadership and professional experience to the next level, building upon the knowledge and skills they gained as Orientation Leaders.

Summer Start Positions

  • Summer Start Mentor
    • Summer Start Mentor is a caring and responsible student leader who serves as a guide to incoming first-year and transfer students participating in the Summer Start program. Summer Start Mentors work collaboratively with the Summer Start professional staff to help students develop important academic and social skills, participate in new opportunities, and learn about a wide array of campus resources.  They also develop close individual relationships with each of their mentees through weekly one-on-one meetings and participation in program events, such as cookouts, sponsored weekend trips, and study groups.
  • Student Coordinator
