Welcome to NC State!

The Office of New Student Programs welcomes you to NC State University, a community of achievers, rich in tradition and academic excellence. To assist you and your family as new members of the Wolfpack community, we invite you to participate in the Family Orientation program. The program is designed specifically for parents and families of first-year students, and it takes place parallel to the Student Orientation Program.

Due to impacts from COVID-19, NC State is shifting summer 2020 orientation programs to a virtual format. For up-to-date information about the university’s COVID-19 response, please visit ncsu.edu/coronavirus.

All enrolled students are required to complete orientation. In addition, we strongly recommend that family members complete the concurrent Family Orientation program. The cost of participation for students and families is included in the mandatoryfirst-year student feecharged to all new first-year students. No payment is due to New Student Programs, and the first-year student fee will be included in your fall tuition bill.

University Housing Move-In

  • The dates for University Housing move-in have been adapted for the new start date for classes (August 10, 2020). Fall move-in will be held July 31 – August 9 by appointment only. Move-in appointments will occur in 3-hour blocks, and students can sign up for their appointment on the University Housing website.
  • If your student is living on campus, we recommend they sign up for an appointment before their orientation begins on Wednesday, August 5th . This means their appointment date options would be July 31 – August 4. Then, they can attend orientation virtually from their residence hall room.
  • Sign ups for appointment times will begin July 6.
  • If your student is unable to arrive by August 9, they should contact University Housing for late move-in instructions (please note, August 17, 2020 is the latest possible arrival date for new international students. Please see OIS’ website for more details).
  • Contact University Housing at 919.515.2440 or housing@ncsu.edu if you have any questions as your student is preparing for Move-In Day.

Orientation consists of three parts:

Part 1 – Online Orientation Session
(required for students; strongly encouraged for families)

New students and families are invited to attend a half-day orientation session via Zoom in August. Student attendance is required, and families are strongly encouraged to attend. During the program, you and your student will learn about the NC State academic experience, ask questions of current student Orientation Leaders and hear from your student’s academic college or program.

In addition to the half-day Zoom session, families can watch video presentations through our Online Orientation Platform. This experience will be self-paced throughout the summer and will include information related to living on campus, navigating university resources, staying safe at NC State with University Police and services for families, among other topics.
