Summer Start is a unique opportunity for you to jump start your NC State undergraduate experience by taking summer session II classes before your fall semester in August. Summer Start is open to all new first year and transfer students (including international students and Spring Connect students).
Important Dates for Summer 2020
- Program Dates: June 17 – July 29, 2020
- Welcome Program: Wednesday, June 17, 2020
- First-Year Orientation Session: Thursday, June 18
- Transfer Orientation Session: Friday, June 19, 2020
- Summer Classes Begin: Monday, June 22, 2020
- Summer Final Exams: July 27 – July 28, 2020

Summer Start is a great way to adapt to the rigors of college academics, gain experience in college-level courses and start on the path towards graduation, all before the fall semester begins in August. View sample schedules showing courses students in each college frequently take during Summer Start.
Learn more about expected costs associated with participation in the virtual program, tuition, and potential financial aid options for the summer. NC State’s priority deadline to complete the FAFSA is March 1, but you may still complete one if you have not done so already.
Summer Start offers participants the chance to participate in co-curricular programs. We will be hosting virtual opportunities to get you connected to peers and campus resources. Check out our programs website for more details on what is being offered and how to sign up!
Summer Start students are required to participate in the New Student Orientation program that will be offered virtually in Summer 2020 before Summer Start begins. A concurrent program for families will also be offered virtually.
During Summer Start, you’ll be paired with a Summer Start Mentor, a student who has experience on campus and will serve as an important resource and guide during your transition to NC State.
