Welcome Transfer Students!

The Office of New Student Programs welcomes you to NC State University, a community of achievers rich in tradition and academic excellence. To assist you in becoming a part of this community, we invite you to attend a Transfer Orientation session. Orientation is mandatory for all transfer and newly matriculated degree-seeking students.

After paying your Advanced Enrollment Deposit confirming you are coming to NC State, be sure to complete the following:

  1. Review details about the New Student Orientation program in the sections below.
  2. Determine which Orientation session you should attend by reviewing the 2016 Orientation dates below.
  3. Register for Orientation by completing the online registration form via WolfPAW (registration instructions below)
  4. Review the New Student Checklist which will guide you through tasks you need to complete before starting in August.
  5. Print the Orientation Parking Permit and the Transfer Orientation Packet

Dates

Transfer Orientation sessions are college/program specific, so you need to attend the appropriate session for the major/college in which you are currently enrolled. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis, and there are attendance caps on each session.

Cost

The cost of attendance is included in the mandatory Transfer Student Fee charged to all new transfer students.

  • This fee covers your attendance and the attendance of up to two guests, including guests’ materials and lunch tickets (up to two per family) for Fountain Dining Hall.
  • This does not include overnight housing for students, parents or guests. Information on overnight accommodations for students for students can be found in the Housing section below. Information on overnight accommodations for parents can be found here.
  • No payment is due to New Student Programs. The Transfer Student Fee will be included in your Fall tuition bill.

Registration

Transfer Student Orientation is mandatory for all new transfer students. Sessions are college-specific, so you need to attend the appropriate session for the college (and sometimes the major) in which you are currently enrolled. Only those students who have been accepted and have paid their advanced enrollment deposit ($200.00) can register for Orientation. All students who have paid their deposit will receive an email from our office inviting them to register for Orientation.

To register for Orientation:

    1. Log in to your WolfPAW account  at https://wolfpaw.ncsu.edu
    2. Click on the “register for Orientation” link under the “My To-Do List” section on the Dashboard.
    3. Read the instructions and select the Orientation session you want to attend. Only the session(s) available to you (based on your college and/or major) will be offered as possibilities.
    4. Contact New Student Programs at 919.515.1234 or email us at orientation@ncsu.edu immediately if you have a conflict with attending your designated Orientation session.

Summer START students: If you are a confirmed participant in the Summer START Program, New Student Programs will register you for the START Orientation session on Monday, June 20 – Tuesday, June 21, 2016. You do not need to take any action to register for Orientation, and you will receive a confirmation email once we have registered you for the session.  For more information, click here

Important Notes

    • After paying your Enrollment Deposit, please allow two days for processing before attempting to register for New Student Orientation.
    • If you are having difficulty with the registration process or would prefer to register over the phone, please call New Student Programs at 919.515.1234.
    • If you will not be attending NC State you must notify the office of Undergraduate Admissions. (Email: undergrad-admissions@ncsu.edu).

Schedule

TransferDuring Transfer Student Orientation,  you will learn about NC State’s resources, opportunities, and expectations, and how these may be different than your previous institution. You will also have the opportunity to meet with your academic program and get to know other new transfer students.

  • Orientation Check-in is from 8:00 to 8:45 a.m. at Lee Residence Hall.  You should plan to attend the program until 5:00pm.
  • Once you arrive on campus using the directions provided below, Orientation signs will direct you to the parking lots where you able to park during your Orientation.
  • The majority of the program will take place in Talley Student Union, and lunch will be provided at Fountain Dining Hall.

Each year New Student Programs selects a group of mature and dedicated undergraduate leaders to assist with implementing university orientation programs throughout the year. Orientation Leaders serve as resources and peer advisors to new students and family members attending orientation programs.

Housing

Due to the one-day nature of the Transfer Orientation program, housing for students will not be provided by New Student Programs.

  • Students requiring housing the night before their designated Orientation date may register for early arrival housing through University Housing Conference Services for an additional fee.
  • Students attending Transfer Orientation Sessions A and B (June 24 and July 8, 2016) can reserve housing in Wolf Ridge Apartments. Students attending Transfer Orientation Session C (July 22, 2016) can reserve housing in Wolf Village Apartments. Click here to register. 
  • Each apartment contains 4 bedrooms (each with a full-size bed) and 2 bathrooms. The rate is $45 per bedroom, per night. Guests may be assigned to share an apartment with another family attending the same event.  Please indicate on your registration form how many guests are in your party and how many bedrooms your party requires.
  • You must be registered to attend Transfer Orientation to stay on campus.  Space is limited, and early reservations are encouraged.
  • Reservations must be made five business days in advance on the Conference Services website, and pre-payment is required (available in early April 2016).

Students who identify as transgender and who plan to spend the night on campus during Orientation may contact Cameron Hill prior to their arrival to discuss the options available for room assignments. The Orientation staff works with transgender students on a case-by-case basis to find the right housing fit for each student.

Directions and Parking Permit

ORIENTATION PARKING:

  • Orientation participants may park on campus in the Lee Lot/West Lot areas located off of Sullivan Drive. The parking lot address is 2530 Sullivan Drive, Raleigh, NC 27607.
  • Please print the Orientation Parking Permit and place the permit on the passenger side dashboard of your vehicle. It must be displayed at all times.

HOW TO GET TO NC STATE:

  • Directions to Lee Hall (2530 Sullivan Drive, Raleigh, NC 27607) can be found on the NC State Campus Map interactive website.
  • Visit the University Transportation website for road construction updates/closings.
  • Please do not try to enter campus via Dan Allen Drive from Hillsborough Street. The road is gated and not accessible to campus from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

What to Bring

Please bring the following items to Orientation: 

  • Orientation Parking Permit
  • Valid driver’s license or other government-issued photo ID (to have your Wolfpack One Card made)
  • Copies of your previous transcripts (unofficial copies) and any AP/IB/SAT II scores (if available)
  • Make sure you know your Unity ID and password and have answered your three security questions
  • Comfortable clothes/sneakers-you will be doing a lot of walking
  • Pen and paper
  • Sweater or light jacket as some buildings can be chilly
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Umbrella

Please leave electronic items (iPad, laptop, etc.) and other valuables at home

Parents’ Orientation Information

New Student Programs recommends that all transfer students consider registering parents and family members for the concurrent Parents’ Orientation program. This program, designed specifically to assist families with their transition to the Wolfpack, is optional but highly encouraged. Learn more on the Parents’ Orientation section of this website.
