Welcome to NC State, and congratulations on your decision to join the Wolfpack! New Student Programs looks forward to working with students in the Summer Start Program throughout their transition to the University.

Review the information below regarding Summer Session Orientation for incoming Spring Connect students and their guests, and contact us if you have any questions.


Student Summer Session Orientation

Spring Connect students participating in the Summer Start program should attend Summer Session Orientation on Thursday, June 21, 2018. Attendance is required due to your participation in Summer Start and will not replace the mandatory New Student Orientation session on January 3, 2019.

Date

Thursday, June 21, 2018

Check-In will take place from 10:00am to 10:30am at Talley Student Union.

Cost

The cost of attendance is included in the mandatory First-Year Student Fee charged to all new first-year students.

  • This fee covers your attendance and the attendance of up to two guests for Family Summer Session Orientation, including guests’ materials and lunch tickets (up to two per family) for Fountain Dining Hall.
  • This does not include overnight housing for family members. Information on overnight accommodations for family members can be found here.
  • No payment is due to New Student Programs. The First-Year Student Fee will be included in your Spring tuition bill.

Registration

Students do not need to register as their information was supplied during the Summer Start application process.

Students can register family members or guests by completing the Summer Session Orientation Registration Form.

A confirmation email will be sent to the family member’s email addresses provided by the student. Please keep a copy of this email for your records.

Check-In and Schedule

During Summer Session Orientation,  you will learn about NC State while meeting with college representatives, receiving information about campus resources, and meeting other students.

  • Summer Session Orientation Check-in is from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Talley Student Union, and the majority of the program will take place in Talley Student Union and Witherspoon Student Center.  The Summer Session Orientation program will run from 10:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  • Once you arrive on campus using the directions provided below,  Orientation signs will direct you to the parking lots where you able to park throughout the program.
  • Meals for students during Orientation are included and will be served at Fountain Dining Hall, located near Bragaw and Lee Residence Halls.

No Alcoholic Beverages Allowed. As students of North Carolina State University, students are subject to the Code of Student Conduct. It mandates that consumption or possession of alcoholic beverages by all persons under the age of 21 is strictly forbidden.  This is also the law in the State of North Carolina.  Students who disregard this mandate will be held accountable for their behavior and disciplinary actions from the University will result.

Housing

If you are living on campus (which is every student who is not exempt from the university’s first year live-on requirement), you will stay in your Tucker Hall room during Orientation.

If you are living off campus during Summer Start due to being exempt from University Housing’s first year live-on requirement, you will have the option to stay in Lee Residence Hall on the evening of Thursday, June 21 (included in the New Student Fee). Email New Student Programs at new-students@ncsu.edu to request housing for the evening of Thursday, June 21.

Students who identify as transgender and who plan to spend the night on campus during Orientation may contact Cameron Hill prior to their arrival to discuss the options available for room assignments. The Orientation staff works with transgender students on a case-by-case basis to find the right housing fit for each student.

Directions and Parking Permit

ORIENTATION PARKING:

  • Orientation participants may park on campus in the Lee Lot/West Lot areas located off of Sullivan Drive. The parking lot address is 2530 Sullivan Drive, Raleigh, NC 27607.
  • Please print the Orientation Parking Permit and place the permit on the passenger side dashboard of your vehicle. It must be displayed at all times.

HOW TO GET TO NC STATE:

  • Directions to Lee Hall (2530 Sullivan Drive, Raleigh, NC 27607) can be found on the NC State Campus Map interactive website.
  • Visit the University Transportation website for road construction updates/closings.
  • Please do not try to enter campus via Dan Allen Drive from Hillsborough Street. The road is gated and not accessible to campus from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

What to Bring

If you are not living in University Housing during Summer Start, you may need to bring a few extra items with you to make your Summer Session Orientation experience successful. Please review the list below for items to bring with you to Orientation.

Please bring the following items to Summer Session Orientation:

  • Orientation Parking Permit
  • Valid driver’s license or other government-issued photo ID (to have your Wolfpack One Card campus ID card made)
  • Copies of your AP/IB/SAT II scores if available
  • Make sure you know your Unity ID and password and have answered your three security questions
  • Comfortable clothes/sneakers-you will be doing A LOT OF WALKING!
  • Alarm clock
  • Cell phone charger
  • Pen and paper
  • Pillow
  • Sleeping bag or long twin sheets & blanket
  • Towel, washcloth, toiletries (soap, shampoo, etc.), and shower shoes
  • Sweater or light jacket as some buildings can be chilly
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Umbrella

Family Summer Session Orientation

Parents and family members of Spring Connect students participating in the Summer Start program are invited to attend Summer Session Orientation on Thursday, June 21, 2018. Attendance is highly encouraged, but not required.

Who Should Attend?

Family Summer Session Orientation is designed for those who will serve as a student’s primary support throughout their transition to the university. During the program, attendees will:

  • Get better acquainted with the academic programs and campus services offered to your student
  • Gain insights into the potential adjustments your new college student and your family will face
  • Meet NC State staff, current students, and other Family Summer Session Orientation attendees.

Can children or young adults attend the program?

Children and young adults are welcome to attend Family Summer Session Orientation, but the majority of the sessions are presented in a lecture format and may not be engaging for them.

Will students and guests be together during the program?

Guests should not expect to be with their student throughout the entire program. Some portions of the Summer Session Orientation will overlap, but approximately half of presentations and activities are separate.

Housing and Hotels

You have several options to consider when making overnight accommodations for Family Summer Session Orientation.  Housing is NOT included in the First-Year Student fee. You may pay to stay on campus in North Residence Hall, or make an off campus reservation at a local hotel.
