*NOTE: To ease traffic congestion, it is recommended students with last names beginning with A-K arrive between 9:00-11:30am and students with last names beginning with L-Z arrive between 11:30am-2:00pm. However, students are able to Move In outside of these recommended times and should plan to arrive between 9:00am-2:00pm as their schedule permits.

*NOTE: Please see parking permit details below to secure your permit for June 19, which will allow you to park in the Coliseum Parking Deck on June 19 for the duration of the Welcome Program activities (between 5:00-10:00 pm).

What to Pack for Campus

  • You must have a government-issued ID (e.g., driver’s license, etc.) to check into University Housing and get your Wolfpack One Card (student ID) made.

How to Get to Owen Hall

  • Directions to Owen Hall (2720 Cates Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27607) can be found on the NC State Campus Map interactive website.
  • Due to construction on campus, to assist in a smooth Move In experience, please enter Cates Avenue from Morrill Drive.
    • Please do not try to enter campus via Dan Allen Drive from Hillsborough Street or Western Boulevard due to road construction. The road is also gated and not accessible to campus from 8:00am to 5:00pm.
  • Transportation Guides and Summer Start and University Housing staff will be on-site to direct you to the drop off areas near Owen Hall.
  • Visit the University Transportation website for road construction updates/closings.

Parking Permit for Move In & Orientation

The following are directions to assist families and students with parking for Summer Start move-in (June 19) and New Student and Family Orientation (June 20-21 for first-year students or June 21 for transfer students). Please note: Due to the NC State Transportation system, you will need to register for two (2) parking permits: one for Move-In day (June 19) and a separate one for Orientation (June 20-21 for first-year students and June 21 for transfer students).

NC State guest parking permits are now virtual, so please follow the directions below, and no paper parking permit is needed. Your license plate is your virtual permit! 

Important notes prior to registering for your parking permits:

  • This permit is free for guests, and you should not need to enter credit card information. If you use a credit card to purchase another permit in error, refunds are not available.
  • Accessible parking is available. It is only valid when a state-issued placard is displayed in your vehicle and you have registered for an accessible virtual Orientation permit through NC State (instructions above).
  • If you need to change which vehicle you are bringing, call the NC State Transportation office at 919.515.3424 to edit your permit.
  • If you will be using a rental car, wait to register for a virtual permit once you have the vehicle and its license plate information.

To obtain your VIRTUAL parking permit FOR JUNE 19, please:

  • Visit Go.ncsu.edu/EventParking
  • Select “Purchase Event Permit”
  • Agree to the Terms of Service
  • Select “Move In”
  • Select “6/19 Summer Start Move In”
  • When prompted enter Start2019 as the Event Voucher Code. The code is case sensitive and must be entered exactly as shown. Click Confirm.
  • Select Permit Type
  • Select/Confirm your parking dates. Click Confirm.
  • Select Location
  • Click “Add Vehicle. Enter vehicle license plate, state, year and make. Click Add.
  • Review information entered for accuracy and click continue.
  • Enter email address to receive, confirmation of parking permit. Click Checkout. Remember, the permit is virtual, your license plate is your permit. Permit is valid only for the vehicle entered. Permit is not valid in paid parking locations.
    Are you driving a rental car? If so, please wait to obtain your parking permit until after you have received your rental car. Vehicle license plates cannot be changed once entered. You must obtain your parking permit before leaving your vehicle unattended on campus.

To obtain your VIRTUAL parking permit FOR ORIENTATION, please:

  • Visit the Summer Start Orientation website to view directions for your specific session (first-year or transfer).
  • Note: If you are a transfer student living on campus, please follow the First-Year Student Orientation parking directions to secure a parking permit for Thursday, June 20 and Friday, June 21. During this time you must park in the Lee Lot or West Lot with this permit.

Once You Get to Owen Hall

  • Transportation Guides and Summer Start and University Housing staff will be on-site to direct you to the drop off areas near Owen Hall.
  • Once in the drop off area, staff members will direct you to the residence hall check-in table to receive your room key.
  • You must have a government-issued ID (e.g., driver’s license, etc.) to check into University Housing and receive your key. Additionally, please make sure to have your emergency contact information, as it may be requested by University Housing during the check-in process.
  • As you are receiving your room key, staff members will assist you and/or your family in unloading your vehicle to expedite the drop off process, as you can expect to have approximately 10 minutes to unload your vehicle. After unloading your vehicle, you will be required to move your vehicle to the Coliseum Parking Deck.

After Moving In, You Must

  • Get your Wolfpack One Card (student ID) made as soon as you have moved in! Stop by the Wolfpack One Card Office (located in the main lobby of Talley Student Union) with a government-issued ID. Your student ID will be the way you access Owen Hall throughout the summer.
  • Meet Your Summer Start Mentor at Owen Beach (the sand volleyball court outside Owen Hall) at 5:30 pm. This is your first chance to meet your Summer Start Mentor and other Summer Start students and you will head to dinner at Fountain Dining Hall after meeting your Summer Start Mentor. Dinner will be provided by Summer Start.
  • How do I find out who my Summer Start Mentor is?  Your Summer Start Mentor will email you the week before Move In (June 12) to introduce themselves.  Their name will also be listed on your nametag, which can be found in the Summer Start Swag Bag you receive when checking in to Summer Start.  When you arrive at Owen Beach at 5:30 pm, Summer Start Mentors will be holding signs with their names on them.

Family Meet & Greet

  • Family members are invited to join the Summer Start staff for a Family Meet & Greet on Wednesday, June 19, from 5:30-6:00 pm in Witherspoon Student Center, Washington-Sankofa Room (room 126)!
  • Families are welcome to drop in to meet the staff, get any questions about the program answered, and learn more about the Summer Start experience before Family Orientation on Thursday and Friday.  The Meet & Greet is an informal opportunity for families to learn how we will support students during Summer Start. 
  • Light refreshments will be served, and during this time, students will be meeting their Summer Start Mentor and going to dinner as a group.
