New Student Service Experience

Dive into community service right in your own backyard with this half-day experience at the S.O.U.L. Garden on Centennial Campus! Get to know other new students while learning about environmental stewardship and food security at NC State’s first harvestable, student-run organic garden. Participants will hear from experts in the field, complete a lasting project in the garden, and then end the day with lunch.


Registration will be open to new first-year and transfer NC State students and will open in August 2018. There are is space available for 30 participants, and registration will include:

  • lunch
  • free t-shirt
  • and all required service materials



  • Check-in will be from 9:00am-9:25am in front of Hunt Library entrance (1070 Partners Way, Raleigh, NC 27606).  Students can access Hunt Library from central campus via the 3, 8, & 11 Wolfline buses. For live routes visit:
  • Service at the Garden will last from  9:30am-12:30pm
  • Lunch will be from 12:30pm-1:30pm.  Participants will have the opportunity to continue to get to know other participants and debrief their experience

What to Wear & Bring

Students should limit the items they plan to bring on-site for safety and security purposes. New Student Programs will provide water bottles for all participants on-site.  Be sure to wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty as well as closed-toed sneakers.
